The Red Hook Lofts on Brooklyn’s Imlay Street are an extraordinary conversion of a New York dock building, combining modern design with a historic legacy, to offer beautiful new living spaces.
The view over the docks from this Red Hook loft is incredible, and was the driver for the bespoke contemporary design the client desired. This light-filled loft offers grand proportions, with its tall ceilings and oversized windows providing this new home with the most magnificent views that needed to be captured to bring the outside in.
The vista was the muse for the design style, with its unique expression of Manhattan and sweeping views of New York Harbor – a panorama that includes the Statue of Liberty. This exterior provided the inspiration for the color palette used within the loft, simple sophistication with pops of color – just enough to be bold, yet not distract from the world outside the window.
This big, light-filled open space needed to be carefully curated into designated areas, such as living, dining, sleeping and working. Through a symmetrical approach to match the clear lines of the loft space, a natural balance was created where each space feels intrinsically brought together with select and iconic furniture, lighting and artwork.
Each of the bedrooms were given custom designed and built beds and cabinetry. The children’s rooms in particular were designed to take advantage of 14’ tall ceiling, freeing space for essential play areas. Overall, Kasia introduced quality materials, crafted together to ensure the relevance of the location of this stunning loft married with the story of the exterior to inform the interior.
